Soup Curry - Cancun in Odori

Cancun from the outside
Cancun was one of my old favourite soup curry spots and actually I hadn't been here for over three years. So, I thought I'd go back. It really hasn't changed much, especially the interior decor which I think is really cool and has a nice rustic homey feel with lots of soft colours and kind of bohemian like. It's pretty small inside with about 3 or four tables, a counter and a window space. It looks like a garden shed from the outside.
I was a little dissappointed this time round with the actual soup curry though. I went for the chicken and vegetable with a spice level of 6 out of 10. The soup was quite bland and boring and level 6 was a bit too spicy for me. They do load you up on the soup though, but if it's too spicy then that's a lot of soup you have to finish. I thought the chicken was a little over cooked and they were a bit tight with the vegetables. The soup to ingredients ratio was well off.
My friend went for the vegetable dish with a spice level of two. They only have one soup base by the way, so not that many options. She didn't like hers at all. Again, she said spice level two was too spicy and she didn't like the vegetables so much. She said they were not that fresh. She couldn't finish it so I did and I think a spice level of four would have been just about right.
I also got annoyed by the smokers table right next to us while we were eating, sadly, unavoidable in this place.
The good thing about this soup curry shop is that it is very close to Odori station, only a five minute walk at South 2, West 5, just away from the cable car.
I don't think I would go back there again though as there are many better places in Sapporo.
