Meat on sticks at Colombia
(Sapporo, Japan)
Cheese Tsukune
green peppers, asparagus bacon, ginko nuts, and other stuff
chicken wings
Colombia or コロンビア (katakana Japanese) is a wicked little yakitori (meat on sticks) restaurant bang smack in the centre of town, about a 30 second walk from Susukino subway station.
The food is delicious especially the cheese tsukune (minced chicken). They melt a very generous serving of cheese over that stuff, and who doesn't love cheese?
I love chicken wings, and the ones here are de-boned so clean and easy to eat. The prices are also very reasonable, especially the beer.
What I really like about this place is the old school Japanese atmosphere. Smokey, bustling and usually full of drunk salary men. A good traditional Japanese experience.
The menus are in Japanese but the staff are friendly and happy to help. They don't speak English though, so you might have to use gestures or better yet, whip out some pictures on your smart phone (see the ones above). That'll work!
Getting there:
It's located at South 4, West 4 just down the side alleyway next to Macdonald's at the main Susukino intersection. It's on the ground floor and just around the corner from St. John's Wood pub.
You can eat meat on sticks at Colombia from 5:30pm until midnight.
