Habana is a cuban style bar that specialises in mexican food and regularly hosts Salsa parties and dance nights. It's located very conveniently down Tanukikoji in Susukino.
Habana is one of the few bars in Sapporo Japan that people can go for Salsa dancing. The bar staff all join in with and they have teachers that come in to hold lessons sometimes. The place is really friendly and everyone that goes to the salsa nights are always encouraging people to dance, especially new-comers. If there are no lessons then the salsa are free entry.
I am a terrible dancer, especially when it comes to dancing with a partner, but all the people there made me feel really welcome and comfortable, so I gave it a go. From what people say, salsa clubs are a great place to meet women, a "gold mine" my friend calls them because there are never enough men that go, so when men go there is usally a queue of women waiting for a dance partner. How often do you see this situation? Guys, get your Salsa dancing shoes on!
The food is pretty good too and reasonably priced. I had a chicken burito and it was delicious. It could have been a bit bigger though, so I ordered some exra nachos.
On nights when there is no Salsa going on, Habana operates as a regular bar and the atmosphere is relaxed. It's nice to sit at the bar and chat with the bar staff.
